Dunbar High School’s roots run deep, all the way back to 1907 when it was called the Rustville School and had a total attendance of 12. Over the next 50 years, the school hop-scotched its Southeast Fort Worth neighborhood, changing locations as its enrollment soared. Dunbar gradually added high school grades and graduated its first senior class in 1957. Ten years later, the school moved to its present location on Ramey Avenue.
The 2007-2008 enrollment stands at 941. But with its growth, at least two things have not changed at Dunbar – Wildcat pride and the teachers’ commitment to student success. Dunbar continues to be a comprehensive high school with high expectations for students. Many graduates have earned scholarships to major colleges. And many of them have returned to Fort Worth as teachers, technicians, business people and community leaders.
