More Arrests in FWISD Thefts

Fort Worth, Texas – Three people have been arrested in connection with an overnight break-in and attempted burglary at FWISD’s Morningside Middle School.

Fort Worth Police and the District’s private security service, Smith Security, worked together to flush the suspects from the school. After a short foot chase, police arrested the trio and recovered a computer, a PlayStation, USB drives, CD’s and other school property from backpacks the suspects had been carrying. The suspects are two young adults and a juvenile.

This morning’s arrests add to the growing number of arrests being made in connection with theft of Fort Worth ISD property. Over the summer the theft of metal primarily associated with air conditioning equipment has resulted in significant losses to the District. Fort Worth Police have already made arrests in several of the metal theft cases.

“We are not going to tolerate anything or anyone that interferes with the education of our students,” said FWISD Superintendent Melody Johnson. “We intend to prosecute all theft cases to the fullest extend possible. Make no mistake; we are serious about protecting our property.”

Repairs to pilfered air conditioning systems at Poly and South Hills High Schools and Green Elementary School are underway but may not be completed until after the start of the new school year. District property losses are in the $250,000 range for the summer.
