Fort Worth – Back-to-school shoppers planning to capitalize on Texas’ annual sales tax holiday might want to take along a copy of the Fort Worth ISD Student Dress Code. There are several changes in the Dress Code for the 2008-2009 school year.
The revisions include the addition of black as an acceptable color of clothing “bottoms” for kindergarten through 8th grade. The FWISD Board of Education also decided that solid white will be the only acceptable color for t-shirts worn as undergarments for all grades.
“The District-wide dress code for students provides fashionable dress options while still helping our students prepare for the world outside the classroom,” said ,strong>Superintendent Melody Johnson.
The Dress Code is available on the FWISD Web site, www.fwisd.org. It was recently included in a Back-to-School insert distributed in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and Diario La Estrella. Copies of the inserts will also be available at this Saturday’s Back-to-School Extravaganza scheduled for Texas Wesleyan University.
This year’s sales tax holiday marks the tenth year that Texas has allowed shoppers to forgo paying sale tax on certain items, including clothing and supplies for students returning to school.
A partial list of tax-free items is included below. A more complete list of exempt and taxed items is available on the Texas Comptroller’s Web site, http://www.window.state.tx.us/taxinfo/taxpubs/tx98_490/tx98_490_list.html.
