New Software To Manage Fwisd’s Important Systems

Fort Worth –ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) is a department within the Fort Worth ISD that is charged with implementing a new software system that will control the District’s financial, human resources, student and payroll systems, processes and procedures. MUNIS is the software suite that will control the financial and human resource projects.

Phase 1 of MUNIS, the financial portion, is scheduled to officially be “on-line” on September 1, 2008, coinciding with the start of the District’s fiscal year. On that date the employees impacted by the systems will be those who request and approve purchases for the district. However, the end-users will be able to start entering requisitions on August 27, 2008. The Chief Financial Officer, Ron Wilson, has previously sent guidance on what steps to take to insure your current work projects are closed out before the new system is activated.

Eventually, all employees will be affected by the MUNIS system when the human resources and payroll modules go online on January 1, 2009. The implementation of the new student system, TEMS (Tyler Education Management System) has just begun. ERP anticipates beginning preparation for master scheduling of the 2009-2010 school year by December 2008.

The District will not be running the old AS400 parallel to the new MUNIS program. As MUNIS modules come activated the corresponding menu items will disappear from the AS400 menu.

Training for the MUNIS system began in early July and make-up training sessions will continue through August. If you have not attended training you won’t be able to access the MUNIS system when it goes on-line. Reservations for Munis End-User Training can be made at www.fortworth.avatarlms.com. Additional information is available from the ERP Department at 817-871-3170.
