On Saturday, August 9, 2008 twenty-two new air conditioning units at FWISD’s Polytechnic High School were replaced using a helicopter. The air conditioners were recently purchased to replace units that were stolen or damaged during a metals theft incident in mid-June. The Sikorsky S-58T helicopter, manufactured in 1957, was employed by the District’s vendor, Decker Mechanical. The chopper made quick work of lifting the 2,000 pound units into place. The new units are expected to working prior to the scheduled start of school on August 25th.
