The Fort Worth Independent School District Board of Education has established breakfast and lunch meal prices for the 2008-2009 school year.
The full-price breakfast for both elementary and secondary schools will cost $.75. The full-price elementary lunch will cost $1.50 and the secondary full-price lunch will cost $1.75. The 2008-2009 full-price meals reflect a $.25 increase across the board and the first time in six years a price increase has been implemented. There has not been any change in the reduced price meals.
“We understand that any price increase can be difficult for some of our families,” said Board president Ray Dickerson. “So this was a difficult decision for the Board, but one we had to make.”
The District has been forced to increase the cost of the full-priced meals because of a 12.5% increase in food and associated costs. Even with the meal price increase, the District still will have to absorb substantial extra expense. Despite the quarter increase, Fort Worth ISD remains among school districts with the lowest priced meals.
